Attendance & Absence Reporting
Reporting an Absence
Please report all absences to the School Office by 9:00am. You can do this by calling 01249 720797 and leaving a voicemail, or by emailing admin@walterpowell.bluekitetrust.org
Attendance
The law requires all parents and carers to ensure their child attends school regularly.
If your child is absent due to illness or another unavoidable reason, please inform the School Office each morning they are off by phoning 01249 720797 or emailing admin@walterpowell.bluekitetrust.org by 9:00am.
Where absences remain unexplained, they will be recorded as unauthorised and may be referred to the Education Welfare Officer.
Medical and Dental Appointments
Please try to make medical or dental appointments outside school hours wherever possible.
If your child needs to attend an appointment during the school day, please complete the relevant absence form.
Children must be collected and returned via the main office reception, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed with a member of staff.
Lateness
Registers close at 9:00am each day.
Arrival after the register is taken but before 9:15am will be marked as late (L).
Arrival after 9:15am, when the register is officially closed, will be marked as an unauthorised absence (U), which is the equivalent of half a day’s absence.
If your child is late, they must be brought to the main entrance.
Collection of Children from School
If someone different is collecting your child, please contact the School Office before midday where possible, giving the full name of the adult collecting.
Alternatively, you may inform your child’s class teacher or teaching assistant directly.
If you are delayed at pick-up time, please notify the School Office or send a message via Dojo as soon as possible.
Leave of Absence
Absence during term time will not be authorised unless there are very exceptional circumstances.
Requests must be made in writing to the Headteacher.
Persistent unauthorised absence will be reported to the Education Welfare Officer and may result in a fine. Absences disrupt learning and can impact progress.
If you need to request a planned absence, please complete the Leave of Absence Request Form and return it to the School Office or email it to them. If you require a paper copy, the School Office will be happy to send one home with your child.
Sickness
If your child becomes unwell during the school day or if we have concerns about an injury, we will contact a parent or carer.
Please ensure the School Office always has up-to-date contact details.
