Qualifications and disqualifications to serve as a local board member

Clerk to Local Board

Hours: 19 hrs per term (six terms per year)

Grade: Wiltshire Grade E (£9.21 – £9.72 depending on experience)

To start on 19 February 2018

The Local Board (Governing Body) of Christian Malford, Seagry and Somerfords’ Walter Powell Primary Schools are seeking to appoint a Clerk to work with and fully support Local Board members.

The schools have one Local Board and are part of the Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust (DBAT).

If you are organised, enjoy a challenge and have excellent administration skills, then this may be an ideal role for you. In return we will offer training and continued professional development, in an area that is interesting and which benefits young people in the North Wiltshire area.

The post is a part-time position, covering 6 Local Board meetings per academic year. The Clerk is expected to provide 15 hours of support for each Local Board meeting and four hours of general support for the Local Board and its committees.  This equates to about 2/3 hours per week.  Each Local Board meeting is held at 7pm. Meetings take place during term time only.

The Clerk is central to the smooth running of the Local Board: preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, offering administrative support, keeping records and giving procedural and legislative advice to Local Board members.

To help the successful applicant fulfil their role we expect them to attend all relevant training events and the Clerks’ Network meetings.

The successful candidate will have:

• excellent organisation, communication and ICT skills
• good time management skills
• an ability to take accurate minutes at meetings
• the ability to offer advice and guidance to the Local Board

In return we will offer:
• the support of a talented and committed administration and leadership team
• the family engagement and network support of DBAT and its academies
• a welcoming, friendly and cohesive team
Closing date: 9am on Monday 29th January 2018.

Visits to all or any of the three schools are welcome.
