SOMERFORDS WALTER POWELL

NEWSLETTER No 31

18th May 2012

1      MRS ROWE

Next week Mrs Rowe will be at SPS on Monday, Tuesday and Friday pm and at SWP on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday am.  Contacts are head@seagry.wilts.sch.uk tel: 720213 or head@walterpowell.wilts.sch.uk tel: 720797.

2     OFSTED REPORT

Our official Ofsted report is in book bags today – it goes without saying that we are very pleased with the outcome.  The Ofsted inspection regime tightened earlier this year, there are currently only a small handful of schools rated as good and none as outstanding in Wiltshire, who have been inspected under the new guidelines.  Thank you to the staff, Governors, pupils and parents for all the hard work, effort and support and well done everyone!

2     SATS WEEK

With a huge sigh of relief, SATs are complete for another year.  Miss Shibley was very impressed with the calm and mature way our Year 6’s coped with theirs and they had a small but noisy party after the last one on Thursday.  Well done everyone.

3        BRAESIDE RESIDENTIAL

Years 3 and 4 are off to Braeside next Wednesday with Mrs Hickling for their 2 night residential.  Hopefully everyone is prepared, please make sure you have the items on the kit list and don’t forget to have something ready for the talent night round the bonfire on Thursday!  Have fun!

4        SMALL SCHOOLS NETBALL AND FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The netball team enjoyed a very sunny morning of netball last Saturday, playing 4 games against other local schools and scoring a number of goals.  We came 4th and Mrs Candy reported that they worked very well as a team, never giving up and with lots of encouragement for each other.

5        CYGNET MENUS AND ORDER FORMS

Next terms forms are in book bags today.  The summer term is a very busy one so please remember not to order hot meals for the following dates;

Years 3, 4, 5 & 6

Wednesday 27th June – Small Schools Music Festival

Years 5 & 6

Week commencing 11th June - residential

Year 6 only

Wednesday 5th July – Junior Good Citizen details to follow

Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th July - Intake days at Malmesbury.

6        UNWELCOME VISITORS!

Please be aware that head lice have made an unwelcome return to school – please check your child’s hair over the weekend and treat if necessary, thank you.

7        PRE SCHOOL DUCK RACE

The Walter Powell Pre School Annual Duck Race will take place at Dauntsey House on Saturday 7th July.  They are looking for donations for the Tombola so if you have anything they could include, please bring them into school before the end of term, although they will of course accept items after half term.  Anything from a lollypop, bar of chocolate, packet of biscuits, jar of pickle, can of tomatoes, box of chocolates, can of lemonade or a bottle of wine can all help raise much needed funds for Pre School.  Thank you.

8        GUITAR TUITION

Guitar tuition will be on Thursday for the last 2 weeks of term, those who will miss it because of the residential will have their time made up at future dates.
