Chair of Governors Newsletter
May 2012
Dear Parents
Another busy period for both schools…..
Ofsted visit
A big ‘Thank You’ to all the staff who were under pressure for the two days of the visit and to those of you; parents and Governors, who gave up your time to help. It really does make a difference when we are supportive of the schools.
You may have read in the press that Ofsted are toughening up their audit approach to ensure that education standards are constantly evolving and improving. This means it’s much more difficult to get good and outstanding ratings. As far as we can tell, the visit went well. We won’t know the final outcome until 17 May. All parents will receive a summary of the report findings.
Class structures
We will shortly receive confirmation of the numbers of children starting next September at both schools. This will allow us to set the budget and agree the class structures for the coming school year. Nearer to the summer holiday, Mrs Rowe will outline the structure at some short sessions for parents. Further information to follow.
Governing body
It’s good to see that we currently have a good mix of parents and community representatives on the Federation Governing body. Governors typically serve for a maximum of 4 years. As a result, I am expecting Governor vacancies after the summer holidays. If you would be interested in becoming a Governor, please get in touch.
Social media
You may have seen that both schools now have Twitter accounts. This is an excellent way to keep you informed of key events such as residential trips.
Facebook accounts should only be used by children over 13 so it was difficult for the schools to condone the use by younger children. We also have to be mindful that some parents may not want pictures of their children published on personal social media pages and sites. On that basis, we have decided not to open Facebook accounts.
Should you have any questions, concerns or issues you’d like to raise or discuss, please contact me direct on pearce_kevin@btinternet.com or the ‘Governor of the month’ on gofm@live.co.uk.
